Bonjour !

Required Summer work for Honors French 2 and 3 students

ete.jpg

This site is for students going into these classes this fall: Honors French II and Honors French III. (If you were French II students this past year, you are now French III! If you were French I students, you are now French II!)

The summer assignment is a means for helping you practice French during the summer break. The idea is to maintain exposure, and use what you know for enjoyable activities that you get to choose yourself. Spend at least 20 minutes per week exploring/working with any of the sites you find on this page. You may also read books and articles that you locate, yourself, or listen to music that you may find. Some links/activities are review materials, and others incorporate vocabulary and grammar you may not have studied yet. Do not expect to be able to understand every word; try to get the gist of sites, articles, video clips. You may also count conversations with French speaking friends toward required practice time. (The conversation must be totally in French;-) This is an especially great activity if you are chatting online with a native French speaker, or vacationing in a French speaking area, etc. While you may count a limited amount of time speaking in French with a classmate from Finneytown, this should not count toward more than 30-40 minutes, total, of your summer work, and you should indicate with whom you talked, and for how long, on your log sheets. )

Log: Download as many of these sheets as you need to complete the summer work. Challenge yourself to at least 20 minutes per week.
Organize the sheets in a way that is easy for me to understand and see what you did. These sheets are due to me on the first day you return to school and completion will count as a major test grade for the first quarter :
(same document but in word document if you want to type on it):

Vary what you use on this site each week. For example, try some games one week, listen to music another week, review some of the grammar and vocabulary activities and games at the bottom of the page during another week, etc. The more variety, the more skills you develop.

Spending a little time everyday listening to French-language Francophone songs, playing games in French, watching French-language Francophone television shows, cartoons, etc. online, or watching part of a French-language Francophone movie on a regular basis will improve your language skills drastically. You will be able to think in French a little better each day. It is up to you to continue to practice. Language learning is a skill that must be developed frequently and over a long period of time.

If you find a link you want to add to this page, send it to me. Indicate the category I should put it in also: sshackelford@finneytown.org
